Institute for Supply Management ™ honors Norbert Ore, C.P.M., with J. Shipman Gold Medal Award

Supply management executive Norbert Ore, C.P.M. has been awarded his profession’s highest honor at Institute for Supply Management™’s 92nd Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit. Ore accepted the J. Shipman Gold Medal Award in Las Vegas in recognition of modest, unselfish, sincere and persistent efforts for the advancement of supply management.

Ore demonstrates a multifaceted approach to supply management and considers supply management to be a profession that successfully cultivates growth and professional development.

"The opportunity to learn, I think, is one of the great things about being a supply manager. If you are in an organization that is constantly evolving, then there is always something new to learn,"
says Ore. "I am always fascinated to learn about new markets, suppliers and products."

Ore is a graduate of Marshall University where he studied marketing and retailing. After college, he joined the United States Air Force where, as a buyer and contract administrator, he developed his interest in supply management as a career.

Throughout his career, Ore has demonstrated leadership in supply chain at several corporations, including Sonoco Products Company, Chesapeake Corporation and Georgia-Pacific, LLC.

In addition, Ore has given much of his time to serving his profession through active leadership in ISM. In 1973 Ore joined the local affiliate chapter of Carolinas-Virginia. Throughout the years at the local level, Ore has held numerous positions, including president, and was actively involved in chartering additional, local chapters. In 1984 Ore took his passion for the profession to a national level by serving on the Educational Advisory Committee and Permanent Conference Committee. In addition to chairing the Manufacturing Report On Business ® since 1996, Ore has been an instructor at ISM seminars for the last 12 years.

ISM joins the members of the 2006-07 J. Shipman Gold Medal Award Committee — Thomas H. Slaight, Aaron D. Dent, Timothy R. Fiore, C.P.M., Bradley J. Holcomb, and David L. Sorensen — in congratulating Norbert Ore, C.P.M., on this prestigious award. The J. Shipman Gold Medal Award was created by the Purchasing Management Association of New York in 1931 to honor Johnson Shipman, a pioneer in the profession.

As the largest supply management institute in the world, the mission of Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) is to lead supply management. By executing and extending its mission through education, research, standards of excellence, influence building and information dissemination — including the renowned monthly ISM Report On Business® — ISM continues to extend the global impact of supply management.
